INGREDIENTS: Schizonepeta, Ledebouriella root, Bupleurum, Hogfennel root, Ligusticum Chuan Xiong, Bitter orange, Poria, Platycodon, Notopterygium root, Pubescent angelica, Licorice. This is a traditional formula for wind-cold invasion. Lab experiments have shown these herbs inhibit viruses and bacteria by activating the immune response to infection. The herbs also have a potent anti-inflammatory function. At concentrations of 0.5 - 1 mg/ml during one test, these herbs inhibited the multiplication of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Bacillus influenza, Bacillus pyocyaneus, Shigelia dysenteriae, Staphylococci and Bacillus coli. In other experiments, these herbs have been shown to inhibit the multiplication and pathogenesis of cells in 11 strains of 5 different viruses, including influenza, parainfluenza, herpes, intestinal ECHO, and poliomyelitis, both in vitro and in vivo. They also inhibited multiplication of viruses in the lungs and alleviated viral pneumonia caused by influenza. They increased the phagocytosis of macrophagocytes and the cleansing activity of mononuclear macrophage in both normal and infected animals. In a double-blind test, 1,096 cases of common cold were treated with these herbs or with a placebo. The total effective rate for the herbal group was 84%, as opposed to 20% for the placebo group. ACTIONS: Expels exogenous wind cold invasion and relieves the exterior. RECOMMENDATIONS: Influenza or common cold with symptoms of chills, fever, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, general body aches, etc. SUGGESTED USE: Take 4 pills 3-4 times daily with hot water or ginger tea, preferably before meals.
